This listing is for one independent adjustable slip clutch with a 1-3/8″ smooth male shaft and a 1-3/8″ smooth bore female end with two (2) grade 8 mounting bolts and nuts! Do you have a rotary cutter that has a shear bolt protected gearbox and wish it had a slip clutch? Have you had to replace your gearbox or repair the PTO on your tractor because the shear bolt failed to shear and damaged your gearbox or tractor? Have you found a good used mower but it does not have a slip clutch and you wish is did? Are you using a rotary cutter that has a 40hp rated gearbox on your tractor that has a lower horse power rating and thinking that the shear bolt which is designed to shear at 40hp will shear early enough to protect your 30hp tractor before it is damaged! Here is an easy way to add an adjustable slip clutch to your rotary cutter without having to purchase a complete expensive PTO shaft! Just remove your smooth bore shear bolt protected PTO shaft from your cutters gearbox by removing the shear bolt and retaining clip, discard the shear bolt and clip, slide this adjustable slip clutch onto the gearbox shaft and align the hole in the adjustable slip clutch with the corresponding hole in the input shaft of the gearbox and insert and tighten the grade 8 bolt and nut (non shear bolt) to mount the clutch. Then attach the smooth bore yoke of your PTO shaft to the slip clutch’s smooth male shaft, align the holes and insert and tighten the second grade 8 mounting bolt and nut and the unit is installed. Check to make sure that the PTO shaft has enough clearance as you slowly raise and lower your mower with your tractors hydraulics and make sure the shaft doesn’t bottom out causing the shaft to bend. If you need to shorted the shaft slightly to allow for proper clearance remove the shaft from the adjustable slip clutch, slide the two sides of the PTO apart and cut an equal amount off of each side as needed, reinstall the PTO shaft to the adjustable clutch and recheck for necessary clearance. Now just adjust the slip clutch to match your horse power requirements making sure to consider both the horsepower rating of the mower and tractor and adjust the overall length of the clutch springs to match the corresponding rating on the provided clutch adjustment table. If you have a rotary cutter with a 40hp gearbox and you have it mounted on a 30hp tractor you would want to set the clutch to slip at 30hp to protect the tractor as it has the lower horsepower rating of the two. If you set it to match the rotary cutters gearbox you could potentially damage the PTO drive shaft and components of the tractor should you hit something hard enough.
